The Role


We’re looking for a detail-oriented, entrepreneurial Executive Assistant who thrives on problem-solving, embraces nimbleness, and is comfortable switching hats between behind-the-scenes operations and customer-facing bookselling.

You’ll be the organizational backbone of our store, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while contributing directly to our customer experience and literary programming.

Key Responsibilities:

Office Management & Store Operations

  • Manage and maintain inventory: books, office supplies, shipping materials, and store essentials (from wrapping paper to trash bags)

  • Organize and process incoming shipments; must be able to lift boxes up to 30 lbs

  • Maintain systems for invoicing, ordering, vendor communication, and supplies

  • Oversee store maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed

  • Support bookkeeping, payroll prep, and operational reporting

  • Create and refine internal processes for efficiency

  • Use technology tools to streamline operations (POS systems, inventory software, Google Suite, Generative AI, etc.)

  • Manage or contribute to store social media and marketing efforts, update website.

Bookselling & Customer Engagement

  • Greet customers and offer personalized book recommendations

  • Process sales transactions and handle customer service with care

  • Contribute to merchandising and shelving with keen attention to detail

  • Assist with planning and executing in-store events, book clubs, and author signings

  • Curate creative book displays and write engaging shelf talkers

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven retail experience; bookstore background preferred

  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong organizational skills

  • Financial and budget management experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Tech-savvy and able to quickly learn and use new tools

  • Strong problem-solving instincts and a proactive mindset

  • Comfort with physical aspects of the job, including lifting and shelving

  • Passion for books and literature across a wide range of genres

  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation a plus

Bookseller - Part-time

About the Role

Are you a bookworm with a passion for storytelling and a knack for customer service? Middleburg Books is looking for a Part-Time Bookseller to join our team.

As a Bookseller, you'll be the friendly face that greets our customers, guiding them through our shelves to find their next literary adventure. Your deep knowledge of books across genres will be invaluable as you provide personalized recommendations and share your enthusiasm for great reads.

You'll also be the backbone of our bookstore, ensuring that our shelves are impeccably organized and our inventory is well-maintained. From shelving books with close attention to detail to processing incoming shipments (yes, that means lifting boxes of up to 30 pounds), your meticulous approach will keep our store running smoothly.

Applicants need to have retail experience, preferably in a bookshop. Your background in customer service and sales will shine as you assist customers with purchases, handle transactions, and contribute to the overall success of our store.

As a valued member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to unleash your creativity through captivating book displays, engaging social media posts, and exciting store events.
